So speaks the modern sage:
“… Numchuck (sic) skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills… Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.”
Napoleon Dynamite
His motivation leaves something to be desired, but skills are not a bad thing. Today, one of our middle children showed me his newly honed ability to walk and spin his yo-yo. This is a good use of time. He is doing something. Practice a skill. Learn something. Turn over a new leaf.
An easy option right now is just veg out. Wake up. Eat. Turn on Netflix. Go to bed. Repeat.
Let me come out in favor of doing something. Not just absentmindedly consuming entertainment. You are all trussed up with scads of time on your hands. Put those hands to work.
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.”
Ecclesiastes 9:10.
Perhaps bit morbid, but you get the point. Now is time.
I’m learning to knit. Why? Why not. I had most everything I needed to get started right in my home already. What about you? It’s getting warm out; break out your golf clubs and practice your chip shot. Watch some tutorials and try yodeling. Split that stack of firewood out back. Learn American Sign Language.
May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us;
establish the work of our hands for us—
yes, establish the work of our hands.
